The Office of the Women’s Advocate (OPM by its initials in Spanish), along with the National Network of Gender Violence Shelters, will hold the first National Meeting of Legal Advocacy on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Wyndham Palmas Beach & Golf Boutique Resort Hotel in Humacao.
The event aims to update and reinforce the knowledge of legal advocates to provide more effective support to victims of gender violence.
“The meeting reaffirms our commitment to victims of gender violence and recognizes the essential work of legal intercessors, who strengthen access to justice and contribute to the recovery of survivors,” Interim Women’s Advocate Madeline Bermúdez Sanabria said in a written statement.
During the event, continuing education workshops will be offered and 50 new legal advocates who successfully completed their training this year in domestic violence and sexual assault cases will be recognized.
“This event marks a crucial step in the preparation of legal advocates who take on the mission of guaranteeing support and access to justice for survivors,” added Coraly León Morales, president of the National Network of Shelters. “We are grateful for the OPM grant, which made these academies and the national meeting possible.”
The OPM highlighted its commitment to the ongoing training of legal intercessors, promoting their certification and development to ensure an effective response to the needs of victims.
