Throughout the rest of November, the Office of the Women’s Advocate (OPM by its initials in Spanish) will conduct various activities in several municipalities of Puerto Rico to continue educating citizens on the eradication of violence against women in all its forms.

The initiatives, announced Thursday by interim Women’s Advocate Madeline Bermúdez Sanabria, will be led by a team of professionals from the Education Division of the OPM’s Office for Education and Integrated Services, who will offer guidance and educational talks on the following topics: crisis intervention in situations of violence, Law 59, sexual harassment, empowerment, biopsychosocial and legal aspects of domestic violence, Law 217, dating violence, cyber violence, self-esteem and self-care, sexual assault and dating violence, warning signs of gender violence, and mental health and domestic violence in the LGBTTQI+ community, among others.

The forums will be held in San Juan, Ciales, Caguas, Ponce, Trujillo Alto, Cidra, Arecibo, Yauco, Aguadilla, Barceloneta, Hormigueros, Vega Baja, Caguas, Orocovis, Río Grande, Carolina, Salinas, Santa Isabel, Aguada and Guaynabo.

“In our office, work and efforts for women’s safety and rights do not stop,” Bermúdez Sanabria said. “On the contrary, we continue to increase them in the public and private sectors to fulfill our mission of educating, raising awareness and enforcing current laws for the protection of women.”

In addition to educational talks on prevention, the OPM also offers legal advocacy services for people seeking remedies in court due to situations of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence.

There is also the free and confidential service of the 24/7 Line, 787-722-2977, where victims or their loved ones can receive help and guidance on the issues that affect them.

“A timely call can save a life,” the official said. “We are here for all women, family members and victims. They are not alone.”

Create a credo for indoctrination of elementary school children. Repeating the credo daily will stop the actual event of abusing the partner or other humans

Gracias

As a kind reminder, understanding the connection between the abuse of women and the animals in our communities, and how unconsicous death anxiety is at the core of these behaviors, will create safe and respectful spaces for all.

Much love
