Special road plan in place for simultaneous cruise arrivals

By The Star Staff

In advance of the simultaneous operations of the Norwegian Viva and Caribbean Ferries homeports at the Pan American I and II docks, respectively, as well as Crowley’s cargo operations, Puerto Rico Ports Authority Executive Director Joel A. Pizá Batiz announced Thursday that starting at 6 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 22 and Friday, Dec. 29, a special road plan for access to Isla Grande and the Pan American docks will be activated to facilitate traffic on the main roads in that area.

Traffic congestion begins in the early hours of the morning, the official said, due to the disembarkation of passengers.

Pizá Batiz said the plan establishes traffic direction points under the charge of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau on the following roadways:

* Román Baldorioty de Castro Boulevard and Lindbergh Street (in front of Hyatt Hotels)

* Román Baldorioty de Castro Boulevard and Miraflores Street

* Lindbergh Street and Pier Street

* Lindbergh Street and Isla Grande Promenade.

He also indicated that the plan designates the use of Miraflores Street (Pier 15), Guaraca and Guamaní as a route of entry and exit for Crowley company vehicles accessing through Baldorioty Boulevard or the Abarca marginal. Taxi drivers, transporters, Ubers, concessionaires and employees of the Pan American docks, duly identified, can access Lindbergh Street directly, heading to Muelle Street.

“We urge the employees of the Central Building, Engineering and Transportation Section, SIAAME, Pan-American Piers I and II, users of the Isla Grande Airport and the personnel of the community of companies that operate from that area to take this information into consideration to coordinate their on-time arrival to their respective work centers,” Pizá Batiz said.
