San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero Lugo announced Sunday the delivery of new equipment and vehicles for the Municipal Office of Emergency Management (OMME) and the Municipal Police of San Juan, with an investment of $2,233,825.

“Our priority is the safety and well-being of the people of San Juan. With this historic investment, we strengthen our emergency response capacity and equip our staff with the most modern equipment to ensure that San Juan is better prepared than ever,” Romero said. “We are investing in the protection of lives and the peace of mind of our people.”

The state-of-the-art security fleet and technology includes:

• Five Type III ambulances, fully equipped as mobile emergency rooms.

• Mobile Command Center, with satellite communication and monitoring stations.

• Underwater drone, capable of operating up to 1,000 feet deep for rescue operations.

• Underwater scanner with artificial intelligence (AI), to identify bodies underwater.

• Rapid response vehicles, including a Dodge RAM 3500 and a Jeep Compass.

• Confined space search cameras, crucial for rescues in collapsed structures.

• Aluminum boat with motor, for rescues in floods and bodies of water.

• 700 tourniquets and 70 stethoscopes, strengthening pre-hospital care.

• 100 Angel Guards security lights, improving staff visibility in night operations.

Likewise, the municipal police equipment was modernized with advanced artificial intelligence technology, including:

• 20 cameras with AI, solar panels and 5G technology.

• 20 automatic license plate recognition (LPR) sensors, which detect stolen vehicles or those linked to crimes.

• 76 video surveillance cameras with AI software, located at strategic points.

• 700 LED security lighting fixtures (Guardian Angel Elite), with visibility of up to 5 miles.

“We are strengthening our response capacity, modernizing our systems and ensuring that every Sanjuanero and visitor can live with greater peace of mind,” the mayor said. “We will continue to bet on a safe and resilient San Juan.”

The official delivery of the equipment took place Sunday morning in the Coliseito Pedrín Zorrilla parking lot in Hato Rey.
