The Ponce Health Science University School of Medicine announced late last week that 96% of its students have been accepted into medical residency programs in Puerto Rico and the mainland United States.

“This achievement reaffirms the academic level of the institution and its capacity to prepare highly qualified health professionals,” said Olga Rodríguez de Arzola, the medical school’s vice president of professional medical affairs, in a written statement.

A total of 108 medical students were accepted in specialties such as orthopedic surgery, pediatric medicine, internal medicine, psychiatry, anesthesiology, neurologic pediatric gynecology and others after completing the National Residency Matching Program.

The “Match Day,” held at midday Friday, marked the culmination of the process in which students learned the programs where they would be continuing their medical formation.
