A man who allegedly shot his mother and brother dead on Saturday night in Hatillo was in police custody on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
According to reports, the police were alerted through the 9-1-1 Emergency System about shots heard at the scene on J Street in Parcelas Manuel Candelaria at around 9:47 p.m. Saturday.
When the officers arrived, they found two people being treated by paramedics. They reported that Mrs. Denise Ruiz, 49, and her son Raúl Méndez Ruiz, alias “Ruli,” 30, died as a result of several gunshot wounds.
According to the investigation, an argument occurred and Méndez Ruiz’s brother, identified as Félix Luis García Ruiz, 34, shot his mother and brother, and left the scene in a red Honda Acura TLX, 2019 model year, license plate JFM-793.
García Ruiz was apprehended and placed under arrest at around 1 p.m. Sunday at the Luis Llorens Torres Residential Complex in Santurce, according to local reports. Police had received information that the suspect had been looking for his father and other relatives in order to kill them as well.
Alexy Camacho Soto, assigned to the Arecibo Criminal Investigation Corps’ Homicide Division, and prosecutor Yolanda Pitino Acevedo were investigating the case.
