Gov. Jenniffer González Colón and Treasury Secretary Ángel Pantoja Rodríguez announced on Monday that the Individual Income Tax Return for the 2024 tax year is now available for electronic filing.

“Starting today, citizens can begin preparing and submitting their Income Tax Returns for the year 2024 electronically through SURI,” González Colón said at a press conference. “This process is part of our fiscal responsibilities and, in many cases, provides access to certain credits that benefit thousands of working families.”

SURI is the acronym in Spanish for the Unified Internal Revenue System.

The governor visited the Treasury Department on Monday to oversee operations and hold a meeting with Pantoja, his team, La Fortaleza Chief of Staff Francisco Domenech and Secretary of State Veronica Ferraiuoli to discuss the progress of tax reform and other key matters.

González Colón also stated that as the filing process begins, the processing and payment of refunds will start promptly. By the beginning of March, Electronic Tax Return Preparation and Filing Centers will be available to assist salaried citizens in need of help.

“Throughout the filing period, which concludes on April 15, 2025, we will develop service initiatives through municipalities and private organizations to ensure that all citizens receive the necessary assistance and guidance for preparing their tax returns,” she added.

Pantoja reported that as of Monday, 1,286,127 W-2 withholding vouchers had been received, an increase of 10,099 from the same date last year. Although the deadline to file other forms, such as the professional services form (480.6SP), is Feb. 28, 894,630 have already been received. The Treasury estimates it will receive a total of 1.2 million forms during this filing cycle.

Salaried taxpayers will once again have access to their pre-filled forms through SURI, including forms 480.6A, 480.6B, 480.6SP, 480.7C, and the W-2. They will also be able to verify their eligibility for various available credits.

“We anticipate a successful 2025 Tax Cycle,” Pantoja said. “In recent years, taxpayers have responded quickly and filed their returns early in the period. We believe this is partly due to the efficiency of electronic form processing, advancements in pre-filling salaried forms, and the prompt issuance of refunds. As always, we remind you to ensure you have all the withholding and information vouchers before filing your tax return to avoid discrepancies in processing.”

The Treasury chief also noted that salaried and self-employed workers who meet the requirements will be able to claim the Credit for Work, which has increased this year, among other available credits.
