Gov. Jenniffer González Colón said Wednesday that next week, when work begins in the Legislative Assembly, she will meet with the leaders of both chambers to discuss her official appointments, among other matters.
“I have the power of nomination. I asked the people of Puerto Rico to give me a House and a Senate to execute. And the people gave me that mandate with a two-thirds majority to execute,” the governor said at a press conference. “Next week, I will meet with the leaders of the legislative bodies. We are, of course, preparing for the start of the session, during which we will discuss the appointments. They have a constitutional responsibility to evaluate and provide their advice and consent.”
“Puerto Rico needs individuals who can effectively implement initiatives,” González Colón added. “I fully trust that our candidates for the House and Senate will deliver on the expectations of the people, who grew tired of a Legislature working against the governor. The previous governor struggled to execute his agenda because he lacked legislative support to approve appointments and pass legislation. I believe we will work harmoniously moving forward.”
The governor said she hopes to finalize most of the appointments before next Monday, the day when the Legislative Assembly officially convenes.
