Gov. Jenniffer González Colón announced on Thursday new appointments to key positions in her administration, including the secretaries of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DNER) and the Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO by its acronym in Spanish), as well as the heads of the Family Socioeconomic Development Administration (ADSEF) and the 911 Emergency System Bureau.
Waldemar Quiles, the retired U.S. Army major named as DNER secretary, has more than three decades of experience in civil engineering and resource management, and has worked on major projects such as the Bechara Canal and the Portugués Dam in Ponce.
“His leadership in disaster management and recovery projects will be critical to our environmental agenda,” the governor said.
Natalia Catoni, who will assume the position of DACO secretary, possesses experience in managing federal funds, public finances and business development, and has worked in local agencies and international organizations such as the World Bank.
“Natalia knows the difficulties faced by consumers and entrepreneurs in Puerto Rico, and I am sure that her experience will be key to protecting consumer rights,” González Colón said.
Ramón Burgos Bermúdez will assume the post of ADSEF administrator with legislative experience as well as executive branch experience in the Family Department, Burgos has led initiatives such as drafting laws for child protection and services for the elderly. The governor highlighted his commitment to Puerto Rican families and his track record on social policies.
José Ángel Reyes Cañada, appointed as commissioner of the 911 Emergency System Bureau, brings over 37 years of experience in public safety and emergency management, Reyes has played key roles in municipalities and state agencies.
“His knowledge and experience will be essential to guarantee the effectiveness of our emergency system,” González Colón said.
The governor noted that the appointments reflect her commitment to socioeconomic development, environmental protection and the improvement of public services in Puerto Rico.
