Gov. Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia presented on Monday the details of the New Year’s celebration in the Convention District, highlighting the tourist and economic impact of the event, which will be broadcast internationally as part of the “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” show on the ABC network.
“We have no doubt that we will again surpass what was achieved in previous years, highlighting Puerto Rico as a unique cultural and tourist destination,” Pierluisi said, noting an investment of $4.5 million in federal funds and an estimated return of $63 million. “This event represents national and international exposure for our island.”
The celebration will include an international show with Luis Fonsi, minutes before midnight, and entertainment by Dayanara Torres. On the local stage, artists such as Gilberto Santa Rosa, El Gran Combo, Gisselle and Plena Libre will participate. There will be a fireworks display and the ascent of the iconic star of Puerto Rico.
Activities will begin at 5 p.m., with strict security controls, including metal detectors and the prohibition of firearms, umbrellas and coolers. For those who cannot access the interior of the T-Mobile District, outdoor screens, food and drink kiosks, portable toilets, and free transportation via the Urban Train and buses will be available until 2 a.m.
