Gov. Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia announced Tuesday the resignation of Fermín Fontanés Gómez as executive director of the Puerto Rico Public-Private Partnerships Authority (P3A).

The governor thanked Fontanés for his valuable contribution to the development and strengthening of public-private partnerships on the island. Gerardo Lorán, a lawyer, will be in charge of the agency during the remaining weeks of the four-year term.

“I want to express my most sincere gratitude to Fermín Fontanés for his work at the head of the Public-Private Partnerships Authority,” the governor said. “During his administration, Fermín achieved the implementation of strategic projects that have had an impact on the economic development of the island. His performance was fundamental in achieving alliances with the private sector and promoting improvements to public infrastructure.”

“I wish him the greatest success in his future projects,” said Pierluisi, who added that under Fontanés’ leadership, the P3A was recognized internationally on two occasions as “Procurer of the Year” in the P3 Awards competition.

Fontanés thanked the governor for the opportunity that the governor “gave me to be part of his team and continue leading the Public-Private Partnerships Authority during his administration.”

“With his support, we were able to complete important internationally recognized projects necessary for the economic development of Puerto Rico, such as the alliances related to the transformation of the island’s electrical system in accordance with the mandate of the law for that purpose, the alliance to operate several highways in Puerto Rico, which will result in substantial improvements to these highways, and the alliance of the cruise ports that will result in a greater impact on tourism on the island,” he said. “I return to work in the private sector satisfied with my duty fulfilled.”

On the same topic, Secretary of State Omar Marrero Díaz confirmed the resignation, while offering assurances that everything the official left pending will continue on its course.

The Public-Private Partnerships Authority is a key entity in the administration of projects that require collaboration between the public and private sectors to improve Puerto Rico’s infrastructure, covering everything from energy projects to transportation and other essential sectors.
