The administrative director of the island court system, Judge Sigfrido Steidel Figueroa, announced Thursday that the judiciary’s operations will continue as usual next week from Monday, April 14 to Wednesday, April 16.
“Thursday, April 17, was declared a day of total closure, so the Judiciary offices will remain closed until Sunday, April 20,” Steidel Figueroa said in a written statement.
During those days, the San Juan and Bayamón investigation rooms will operate in a consolidated location at the San Juan Judicial Center, from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Bayamón Investigation Room will be closed.
Additionally, the Ponce courtroom will operate from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Mayagüez courtroom from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the Aguadilla courtroom from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The other regions will have on-duty judges available by phone or videoconference from the nearest courthouse.
The Virtual Municipal Courtroom will be open from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., meanwhile, to address urgent matters such as protection orders and mental health issues. Any court deadlines that expire during the closure period will be extended until the next business day.
