Designated Justice Secretary Janet Parra Mercado announced Monday that the Arecibo Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Reynaldo Valentín Rivera, 34, for allegedly abusing his partner in the municipality of Manatí.
Prosecutor Ilia Reichard brought two charges against Valentín Rivera, for aggravated abuse and carrying, transporting or using a firearm without a license, under the island’s domestic violence and weapons laws, respectively.
According to the investigation by Agent Patricia Aguilar Mercado of the Police Bureau’s Domestic Violence Division, the accused used vulgar words directed at his partner during a discussion. During the intervention, the authorities seized a firearm for which the accused did not possess a license.
Judge Francisco Santiago López of the Arecibo Court of First Instance found cause for all charges filed by the Arecibo Prosecutor’s Office and imposed bail of $10,000, which the accused posted.
The preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 29.
